Question1:

QUESTION:

Kelloggsville High School Students are doing a mural and we need your input!  It will be included in this project!
Go to the blog site above and tell us what you think!
If you can’t blog, you can draw or write a note and put it into Ms. Casmere’s mailbox

We are proud of our Kelloggsville Community for many reasons.  We build our MIND, BODY and SPIRIT in many ways and we celebrate our diversity.
What are some ways you have observed this?
Example:  “I feel that my friends and I are showing good values
by participation in volunteering for mentoring.   This gives the younger students a chance to see that we are doing the right things too!”

THANK YOU!  YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN A COMMUNITY PROJECT.  SERVICE LEARNING IS A KISD YEZ! PROJECT

  3. Positive acts of diversity are things like creating new styles, wearing them, and being proud of them and yourself, or standing out from the crowd in an unusual way.

  7. The Kelloggsville Community expresses mind thru the education it gives its community, there are so many different ways to get involved in helping and learning how to make the community become a better place for everyone who lives in it. Theres after school programs to help people who may need a little more help with a certain class, or programs to help young adults to get ready for the "real" world and help them with employment skills, also the community itself is one of the best i have lived in. Well, thats how i think the community expresses mind. :D

  17. Kelloggsville is different from all the other schools in it's own way, I say that respectively. What I mean by that is that Kelloggsville has so much of a diversity of life and culture throughout it. "The school of great times and laughter", though we are known to be the "hard-working" school, but that's a good thing though. That's what shows the significance of Kelloggsville.

  18. I feel like we have done completely meaningless things. Such as spirit week and wearing pajamas and dressing in an inappropriate and immature manner. I think it's very unprofessional and we should take things more seriously.

  19. One of the things about our school is how easily most people seem to get along. Doesn't matter what differences they have, it's easy for everyone to be accepting.

  24. What makes me proud of this community is all the extra circular activities. Although some of them may not be my kind of sport but its okay. What I think about this school is that it needs more people teaching like Mr.plain and Mr. Lakatos and Mr. linker

  26. Jasmine Moore The Kelloggsville community has been involved in many aspects of our school. The community has created places for students to go so that they don't get in trouble. They have also provided parks and recreation centers for our students to visit. I am proud that this school allows students to exceed in any aspects of this school, such as the education, sports, and clubs, which in turn builds the student's mind. The school encourages people to try their best, and for those people who need help they have teachers that will work side by side with them. They even provide honor classes or allow students to move up. And lastly I am proud of the diversity. With all the different cultures it allows students to experience other heritages such as african, asian, and hispanic. With the wide range of diversity it allows students to be comfortable in any working environment.

  53. What I like about Kelloggsville is that the kids in our school are not afraid to say what they are thinking. Yeah, that may get us into trouble sometimes ( or a lot of times) But, we all have a lot of character. Also, I like that kids here have a lot of pride in Kelloggsville, when we go to sporting events, people from other schools are always saying how much pride we have.

  55. I like how pretty much everyone knows everyone. We're actually people here, not just numbers like other big schools. I like how our teachers put so much hard work and dedication to giving the students a good education. I also like that there are actually stricter rules here because the school would be a mad house without them. What I love about the school, is the fun activities we are able to participate in like, Rockets got talent and the assembly games we have. I also love that was have a Gay Straight Alliance group, it shows that our school is accepting of you no matter what. But the thing I love most is my senior class. We're all so diverse and different from each other but for the most part most of us get along with each other. Class of 2012 forever :)

We care about each other and help others when ever they are in trouble. Kelloggsville's sports teams never give up and what I love about it is that they just play to have fun. I hope this project turns to be a great project and our school can be rated as a great school out of all theses schools in our area. The food here is really good. We should never judge a person by race, religion or the other stuff that happens.

  61. Our school shows great diversity. I came here in 7th grade and immediately I felt accepted. Everyone has their choice of people they hang out with but no one is discriminated. I play sports here and it is a great way to meet people and meet new friends that share similar interest.I had chances to move to advanced classes and to meet my potential in my classes. I am grateful for that.

  67. Kelloggsville High School is one of the most diverse school I know. Kelloggsville has offered students a good amount of honor classes, but I think we can offer more students some honor classes. We have clubs for both girls and boys and some for both. I am playing volleyball and basketball this year. When I was in middle school I played volleyball, basketball, and track. Diversity is shown all over the school. The classes, sports, and clubs are diverse. Schools other than Kelloggsville aren't as diverse.

  69. What I've noticed in this school is a lot of friendliness...people and students come in every day and they go straight to their friends at a certain table, but if there's a new kid who comes in and doesn't know what to do...they all go and greet him/her with happy faces...I joined the archery team because my dad said that I needed more friend and that I need to be school active or something...so I joined and I made a lot of new friends and such...everyone loves everyone...no makes fun of anybody...and everyone sticks up for each other...I think that the artist that do this project should paint a giant smiley face to show how we all can share a smile whenever and where ever it's needed...

We try our best in sports to get a big win which is great. We never stop trying and NEVER give up. When somebody has problems somebody is always there to help you.

  81. Kelloggsville is by far one of the most diverse schools in Grand Rapids. There are many different cultures here like Hispanics, asians, etc. Kelloggsville's staff is also very good, the teachers are all nice in their own way. The teaches would help students that need help and they try their best to make sure you succeed. The opportunities they give here is also very good, from the extra credit for students to the test retakes give students a chance to raise their grades. Kelloggsville is a great school and very welcoming.

  82. Kelloggsville really encourages creativity. Our school is one of the few schools I know of that does not ban forms of self expression such as colorful hair, piercings,or appropriate yet obnoxious clothing. Its one place where it is not against the rules to be who you are. Kelloggsville also encourages choice. It is our decision on what we want to pursue in school. They offer many enriching classes in arts , sciences, and many other subjects to help students grow as individuals. This gives us as students an incredibly diverse education full of possibilities.

  84. The thing I like most about Kelloggsville is the diversity I like the fact that our school allows different caulters go to the school and the fact there parents choose to send there kids to Kelloggsville instead of another school that's what I like about our diverse school

    ReplyDelete
  85. Our minds are built in the classes we take part in at our school. Our bodies are shaped through the physical activity that the school provides. I don't feel like spirit is shown very well in this school though, with all the chaos that pops out of nowhere. Our diversity doesn't separate us from each other emotionally, nor does it cause the conflicts in the school. The problems this school faces usually just come from people acting up because they feel like it.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I have observed that the Kelloggsville community is very diverse. There are students of every different race. In the hall ways you see these races coming together as friends, family, team mates, and class mates. In other big schools nobody knows anybody except their close friends.
Also, we represent the MIND portion of 'mind, body, spirit' by the high academic success we strive for here at Kelloggsville.

  87. I have witnessed the Kelloggsville community express all three aspects of MIND, BODY, and SPIRIT. We have great enthusiasm for our sports teams, whether they are struggling to put points on the board or completely dominating the opponent. Our stands and bleachers are always filled with cheering and supportive spirit. We here at Kelloggsville even have a dedicated group of students called "K-Krew" who encourage support amongst the sporting events and assemblies. They keep our spirits high and upbeat. The student body is by far the most diverse group of students any school will ever have. You may think that with Latinos, Asians, African Americans, whites, and other minority groups that the environment in Kelloggsville is very hostile and segregated. This is not the case. Each and every student interacts with each other no matter their ethnicity and are welcoming to one another. Students and staff are very comfortable around each other, unlike other larger school systems such as East Kentwood where the peers and teachers don't usually get the opprotunity to build a strong relationship with one another due to large classes. In the Kelloggsville community, failure is no option. There are support groups and mentors that are provided if you are struggling to succeed in school. The teachers and counselors are patient and are persistent with giving you the tools necessary to succeed. Kelloggsville also provides students with A.P and Honors classes to meet the needs of excelling students. Kelloggsville is, like I said before, a prime example of expressing MIND, BODY, SPIRIT, and DIVERSITY.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I have seen how the Kelloggsville community has expressed Mind, Body, and Spirit. We all have a lot of Spirit for the school by cheering our sports teams on. Even if the sports teams don't always win we will support our teams o matter what the score is. The students here are very diverse different styles, personalities, and even skin color. No matter how different everyone is so welcoming to each other. Also many of us have friends who we never thought would be our friends. The minds of the students are always working, and the teachers are always here to help if we don't understand something. The teachers and counselors help with many problems and help make so no fights go on in and out of the school. The students also help each other in many ways with work and just by sharing friendship. Kelloggsville is a great way to show MIND, BODY, and SPIRIT.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Kelloggsville has diversity. Where you can see this is in the student body. The way they show it is there sprit, mind, and body. When you walk in the hall ways you see different races and during lunch you don't only see the African Americans, Causation, Asian's ,or Hispanic's sitting in one table of only there race you see a mixture of the cultures. That why I believe that the school has diversity because i see it everyday at kelloggsville.

  90. In my opinion Kelloggsville is growing in many ways. Mind, body and spirit is a very interesting topic to discus. I feel that mind is demonstrated especially here at this school. All the teacher and even students are on each other about the grades that they earn in class. Body is expressed by the sports and activities that Kelloggsville has to offer. I know that is very cliche but it is true. To be honest I really would like to see spirit shown more than it is. I don't really have an example to show how we demonstrate spirit. I guess the closes thing is the kindness everyone show towards each other, but then again it is not close enough.

  91. Kelloggsvile High School is probably one of the most diverse schools of west michigan. We have asians, hispanics, and blacks. What i also like about my school is how all the diversities get along. The teachers are very nice and will always help you no matter what. Teachers put in their own money and time into their students so they'll be able to succeed. Most teachers would never put in that kind of time to a student but at kelloggsvile all the teachers are devoted to their jobs. :)

  92. In my opinion Kelloggsville is growing in many ways. Mind, body, and spirit is a very interesting topic to discuss. I feel that we demonstrate mind by the awards we have for students who excel in school. We also demonstrate mind by how hard the students are on each other about grades so A+ on mind.Body is expressed by the great sports and activities this school has to offer. I know it sounds cliche but it is true. I feel we have more to do in showing spirit. I don't think we show that enough.

  93. I am so proud to be a part of a school that embodies all three of these characteristics! To illustrate "Mind," Kelloggsville students challenge themselves in a variety of academic areas. We have HUGE talent in the Arts, Music, Mathematics, English, Science, and Social Studies. Our "BODIES" are put to work daily, whether it be in athletics, PE or Strength class, or simply walking to and from school. The Rockets definitely show off their "Spirit" the most, however. Through our different cultures, backgrounds, fashions, tastes in music/movies, different personality types, etc., we create one well-rounded community!

  95. I'm happy that the high school decided to make a mural. It brings more "life" to the school. Kelloggsville is great school and I'm proud to be a student. This is a very diverse school and there are endless opportunites for all students. I feel that many of the students get along well. Everyday I walk in the hallways and I never see, any bullying. This is just one of the many reasons why I love this school. Students are at peace with one another. Yes there are moments when conflicts happen, but we are all human, we have bad days. This mural just is an example of how students work together and make something that brings pride to them and their school. I am truly proud to be a Kville Rocket.

  96. Kelloggsville shows many examples of mind, body and spirit. We show our "minds" by having many advanced classes that many students take to challenge themselves and go above and beyond. Our "bodies" are shown by coming to school everyday and not being jerks to each other. Our "spirit" is shown by many who have rocket pride. Many participate in events such as spirit week and sporting events by wearing the good old orange and blue. You'll find many examples of mind, body, and spirit just by walking the hallways at Kelloggsbille.

  97. I think the mural has been a great idea and it's really cool that people have taken their time to leave what could be taken as a "footprint" in Kelloggsville High school's history and even the whole district's history. I think it's really important to do something different in our school once in a while. I hope in future years they take art more seriously in this school and in the whole world. I think once kids see this once it's done they'll value the importance and significance of art and future generations will want to take art because of their inspiration the mural has given them. It automatically catches your attention and I think every loves it. It helps us take pride in our school, I think art should be a bigger movement in Kelloggsville and I hope it doesn't stop at this mural. Any form of art takes your mind, body, and spirit. Whether it's music, painting, dancing, directing, acting, all forms of art can reach into everything within you and always get the best out of you. That's my example of mind, body , and spirit. (:

  98. The body, mind and spirit is a wonderful project for many people. We are going to be able to see all the different types of ways people can be creative. I'm vey glad our school is letting us do this, it gives us a chance to show that are school can be different. Also how creative we can be to make our school a better place in our community.

  99. The mural is a way to get more art into the schools walls. Kelloggsville is a place of diversity and open people. this art work is bringing students closer together to our teachers and each other. Having students that normally wouldn't be hanging out together working on the same project is a great way to bring them together. this project is giving us kville kids more rocket pride and giving them something more fun to do than boring classwork(:

  101. In the mural it shows how Kelloggsville is one as a unit. In many ways are school is different from others. The wall shows our bonds between one another and support. It also shows how we are athletic in many ways and very focused on our grades and work. i think that the wall is coming together great and I am also glad to be apart of painting the wall. Ways we can improve the wall is try to incorporate more people into the wall and cultures. Also maybe draw things in the background like basketballs, volleyballs, and other things.
