Week of JANUARY 16 Painting begins! Question #2 or answer #3!

Question #3.  Some people suggested ideas for the mural.  What are yours?  How do you think the mural is progressing?  What questions should the artists consider?
Nathan and Rene creating the background colors.
Idelia drawing Idelia!  She is blowing bubbles that will represent all the different cultures in our school.
"The Crime Scene"!!?
Veronica painting Taylor.

Sergio "el Sabrino"
Jessica sketching a figure.
Just the beginning!  These two students represent friendship!

  1. I think the mural should of had the faces actually painted in it looks a little weird with just shadows. The mural is progressing wonderfully with nice shading and blending and the people in it are drawn very well.

  3. I think for body, maybe to show a dancer? So far, the mural looks pretty amazing! Way better than I expected. I knew it was going to be amazing, but I didn't know it was going to be THAT amazing! Artists should think about questions like "How is this portraying the mind, body, spirit theme?" or "If a stranger were to look at this, would they understand the meaning without any explanation?".

    1. Your input means a lot to the student! They are working very hard and have put much thought into each piece of the artwork. I am happy you get to view it right outside your door way!

  6. I think the mural is coming along very well. The pictures are great i just can't wait until all of it is done so everyone can see the finishing touch. I think so far nothing needs to be added to the one in progress except words kind of describing the pictures. The color scheme is something to think about though just all blue is kind of plain. Over all this is a very well done job and is a great change for the school.

  7. I suggest the mural include a report card with all A's or good grades. I think the mural is turning out pretty good. I like the background colors on the wall with the purple and blue. I like the different poses that the people are doing on the mural. Also the different styles they are posing in are interesting. The girl that is blowing into the future looks really cool. I never thought of that before you told our class that she was blowing into the future. I thought that was a good idea. I think the artists should consider putting in more artwork that has to do with the mind. For example, our grades or report cards or maybe a GPA like 3.5 or 3.9.

    1. That is a good idea Kim! We are including a student working with a teacher, students studying, and a graduate to represent the excellence you talk of! Would you like to paint with us sometime?

  8. I think that the mural is looking good its starting to look real nice. The only thing that i would tell the artist to consider would be to choose more colors.

  9. in this significant artistic project for the school they should put a group of people from different races, and also they should show all the sports because each sport is very important for the school. this project has made an enormous process because two weeks ago this mural was not even fully painted, but now this project is only needing it last touches. The artist should consider the question that if this is the biggest project that the school has ever been involve in? and if the answer is yes then the artist should put everything they got into it.

  10. I think the mural is really coming along. I love walking through the hallways and seeing all of my friends pictures up there. I also like the bright color choice. So far I think it is perfect, and no changes need to be made. I can't wait to see the finished project. People is going to recognize the effort everyone has put into the mural.

  11. If I were to make a suggestion, I would probably suggest that you include other symbols besides humans. So far, the murals look pretty good ( much better than I could ever do). If there's anything the artist should, it's whether or not the murals actually represent what the artist has in mind.

  12. I like how some of the pictures actually look like the people and how you can tell who the person is. I don't have much to say for the artist because they are already doing great. But I just have one question. Why aren't the people in the murals colored in with the skin tones or have the normal color of their clothes? Also what is the color scheme about because one side is bright happy colors and the other side uses darker colors. So I was wondering what the color scheme was? And I don't have any other ideas.

    1. I am glad you joined in working on the mural! The color scheme of the "full spectrum" was chosen to represent our "full spectrum" of cultures in our community. Read the Q and A entry for all the answer to the deeply thought out ideas of this mural! I was impressed with what the students could brainstorm and questions like yours!

  13. I really like how the mural is coming along! The different poses of the students are different than you would see on a regular wall painting. A question that the artists should consider is whether or not they believe the person they are drawing, working on is what they believe represents mind, body and spirit. Other then that, the mural looks fantastic and so much better than what I had expected. :)

  14. I feel that the mural has gone a long way in such a short time. It really has changed the atmosphere in our school and made the vibe a little more interesting. Kelloggsville High School has not been updated with any modern looks, and I thought, personally, that the school portrayed no personality or UMPH, if I may say so, until the mural came along. It truly does represent what our school strives for. I would suggest that we add something that students can interact with in the mural itself. Something along the lines of the Meijer pony ride for a penny, but make this one a Rocket flying off into the unrealistic distant space that could be painted on the wall. I think a plaque with a history of Kelloggsville and the production of the mural should also be put into place. I thought that the artists working on the mural should consider representing the history of our school more. It is true that the piece is centered around MIND, BODY, and SPIRIT, but it pays no respect to past graduates and the legacy that they may have also left behind. In general, the mural is looking fantastic and is a great new rendition to our school.

    1. Great thoughts Richard! I love the idea of honoring the history! We will do that! Thank you! I would love for you to come up with an idea for that part! A picture of a past graduate possibly? Let me know if you are interested in executing that!
