February 10 Mind, Body, Spirit Mural Project

The progress on the mural is going great!  The Advance News came and did a super article on it.  We are asked daily to expand our mural!  Here is where we are at currently.  Enjoy!  Here's MORE!!
"The Crew" working hard!
White highlights have been added to the graduates teeth.
The bubbles of the cultures, flags, and countries our community represents are beginning to "pop" in!

Students work in the morning, during class, and after school to take part in the mural.
Tarps, tape, drop clothes, and a perfect clean up is needed each day!
The head phones were added as a student touch of genius!
Anyone who has worked on the mural should have their name on the blog!
Let me know if yours is not!  I will be glad to add it!

January 25 Good Question!!!

Many of you have been asking some great questions about our Mind, Body, Spirit Mural.
Here are some answers!
Q:  How were people chosen to do this?
A:  Ms. Casmere asked for volunteers to work on the project and at first there was just two students.    We first brainstormed our ideas and went to the KISD to learn about Service Learning Projects and how to be affective leaders.  It was fun!  We came back to school and decided on what we were trying to communicate, how we would represent the ideas, and what way we would go about the project.  Ms. Casmere scared me  a bit when she told me I was leading this project, but so far, it's been very cool!
Now there are over 100 students that have involved themselves in some way along with the community that have visited. Even the staff are apart of it!
Q:  How many people can get on the wall and how are they chosen?
A:  Since space is limited for this project, the artists involve who volunteered to originally work on this Service Learning project and Ms. Casmere decide by the factors above and compositional space of the mural.  We are fitting all the cultures and values this community represents so we choose by idea, space, design, and all your great pictures you enter!  So, we have a bit of everyone!
Q:  Why all the colors in the background?
A:  Artist choose color for very specific reasons!  The background color, if you noticed, is the scientific color spectrum of the color wheel.  The reason it was used was that it represents "the full spectrum of people in our multicultural community" which we are so proud of.
Q:  What's with the girl blowing bubbles?
A:  Again, artist are very thoughtful!  The bubble are blowing in the wind.  They are temporary but are beautiful!  The are spectacular, perfect just the way they are, have possibility for leaving an awesome impact, but eventual are gone.  JUST LIKE YOU!  So make your impact an awesome one!
Q:  Why are the warm colors on one wall and the cool colors on the other wall?
A:  Actually the colors will join.  Did you see the light lines of the circles from the girl blowing bubbles?
The warm colored wall with have cool colored bubbles.  Inside the bubbles will be either flags or maps of the cultures our community represent.  We will be able to add to this as our community grows.

Q:   How do you get your picture on the wall?
A:  You have to have signed onto this Blog and send us some comments, questions, or picts. What?  You haven't done that yet?!!
Q:  Am I, for sure, going to be on the wall?
A:  We are working on representing our total population by representing each race, culture, mind, body, and spirit in our community with at least one reference. If you are not pictured, not represented, let us know!  You are also welcome to join us on the Blog or work on the mural!  See Ms. Casmere for a piece of the action!

Q:  Can you do more?  It would be cool to have this theme throughout our school!
A:  Baby steps!  We were given the KISD Service Learning grant that supplied us the material to create this mural.  One at a time!  This one needs to be finished and we have much more to do.  We are happy you like it so much you would like more!
